1. Approval of Minutes – Kim; minutes approved unanimously
The Ward Three Association recently sent a letter to the Mayor and City Councilors regarding our concerns about including the Main-Bridge-Hawley-Market Streets intersection in city planning. Below is a copy of the letter that was sent and the mayor’s response.

February 12, 2013
Dear Mayor David Narkewicz, City Council President William Dwight, Ward 3
City Councilor Owen Freeman-Daniels, and City Councilor at Large Jesse Adams,
Over the last few years we have witnessed considerable improvements to our
roads, bikeways, and pedestrian right of ways in Ward 3. We applaud the city
for these efforts. To this list of successes we would like to add one more critical
project that seems to have been overlooked in all this activity, the intersection
at Main-Bridge-Hawley-Market Streets.
This is unarguably a downtown intersection. The surrounding area is zoned
Central Business. It is home to numerous downtown businesses and services. It
features the flagship Spoleto restaurant, The Roost, and old favorites like Joe’s
Pizza. Citizens pass through the intersection to access Historic Northampton,
the bike trail, and the Post Office. When rail transportation returns to the city
next year, college students will traverse this intersection to catch the bus to
Amherst. Continue reading
